What is Community Watch?

What is Community Watch?

  • Community Watch is an umbrella for several programs
  • Citizens are encouraged to connect with their neighbours, the municipality and the police
  • Operated by community volunteers with the assistance and support of the OPP and the Town
  • Supports two key Municipal goals:
    • Proactive Crime Prevention
    • Community engagement and participation in local decision-making

Community Watch works together with residents to develop safe and strong communities through community cooperation and communication, acting as a force for community building and providing a means of reducing the opportunity for crime to occur, through the active participation of the Town of Blue Mountains as a whole in crime prevention and with the support of their corporate sponsors.  We solidify relationships, encourage strong community involvement and bridge the gaps of communication.

Community Watch initiative is comprised of a number of individual programs under the umbrella of “Community Watch.”

The core and essential component of all programs is “community commitment.”  Community volunteers run and implement these initiatives with the support of the local OPP detachment and the local Detachment Community Watch Coordinator.

A community crime prevention program that includes:
